"The transaction is truly synergistic to NEIC and Next Gen, with whom we've had an excellent long-term working relationship," said NEIC president Bob Frotten. "The transaction provides both companies with immediate opportunities of mutual benefit."

Based in Taunton, MA, NEIC distributes ice cream, frozen desserts, beverages and snacks to more than 5,000 clients in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut, as well as the southern parts New Hampshire and Maine.

Next Generation provides vending and office refreshment services to more than 8,500 clients throughout the Northeast, including Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, upstate New York and northern Pennsylvania. The operation is headquartered in Stoughton, MA.

"We have always admired the folks at NEIC and respect the way they built a good business outside their core routes," said Joe Rogan, chief operating officer of Next Generation Vending. "We welcome their customers into our service network. We look forward to an even closer relationship with NEIC as a supplier partner for our entire system."

Bruce Ginsberg founded New England Ice Cream Corp. in 1987 as an ice cream equipment trading and business development consulting company. A decade later, he evolved the business into an operating company, targeting the emerging ice cream vending channel. NEIC placed 1,000 ice cream vending machines within the first two years. From there, the company diversified into direct store distribution and wholesale, and became a specialty supplier to the foodservice, education, healthcare, mobile vending and special events channels.

With the divestiture of its vending division, Frotten said NEIC will continue to grow its core wholesale and specialty distribution divisions.
