British electrical retailer Dixons Retail opened its first store in a series of new concept stores for its travel brand Dixons Travel at the South terminal of London's Gatwick Airport.

Unlike traditional POS (point of sale) format stores, the new 1,466ft2 space features digital signage to showcase latest products and information.

Designed for the weary traveller, it will feature an open space with a shelf to provide a storage space for the luggage, while the travellers pay for their purchases.

Creating a theatrical atmosphere, the digital visual merchandising tables will offer 32-inch rear projection 'floating screens' over specially themed areas to provide high-tech in-store customer experience.

The 10-inch tablet 'look books' next to products will inform the customers about the products and associated offers while the Knowhow bar will offer hands-on tech advice and repairs.

The store will house 1,100 products starting from tech to favourite travel essentials.

Visitors to Gatwick Airport will be sent a text message upon arrival, which will offer them a £10 off £100 spend voucher at Dixons Travel in the South Terminal.

Gatwick Airport, also known as London Gatwick, is London's second largest international airport and second busiest by total passenger traffic in the UK after Heathrow.

It is also Europe's leading airport for point-to-point flights and has the world's busiest single-use runway with up to 53 aircraft movements per hour in late-2012 and a maximum capacity of 55 movements per hour.
