Last weekend, at the Canadian International AutoShow in Toronto, toy car makers Hot Wheels, together with Chevrolet Canada and marketing firm TrojanOne, displayed Canada's first Twitter-activated promotional vending machine - aptly called "The Hot Wheels Camaro-matic Trending Machine." By tweeting the correct hash-tag, it dispensed free (if small) Camaro's to attendees.

Safeway (SWY), the number two grocery chain, has already signed up for more than 50 kiosks. Safeway is betting on the kiosks, even though its units have Starbucks locations inside.

KIOSK Information Systems of Louisville has teamed up with Denver-based ink distribution company Legacy Imaging to launch a new automated retail kiosk.  The new kiosk, called InkSpot, offers consumers "convenience and savings" when it comes to buying ink cartridges for their printers, said Legacy Imaging Vice President Michael Frothingham. The system is installed at McGuckens in Boulder.

Patent No. 8,191,779 B2 was issued for AVT-developed technology regarding a unique wireless system designed to manage a network of remote vending machines.
